Men Too, Hurt
First of all, I do not purport to know everything about abuse, whether physical, psychological, emotional, or…
Dreamer is a serialized series that will arouse your inner artiste, forcing you to think outside the box and toward more grandeur of thought and imagination! This Avant-garde picturization of what it means to be at the cusp of defeat only to manifest your truest potential is a series that tackles some of our deepest demons: race, class, sexuality, abuse, and trauma, plus many esoteric ideas. Through this bold rock musical drama, we will be introduced to one man’s journey from tragedy to triumph and what it means to stare death in the eye only to come out on the other side.
We begin with the visual of Dreamer lying on his deathbed in the sterile, morose palliative ward. From there, we are transported into his state of delusion and despair, as Dreamer replays the events that informed his most painful memories. We meet an elusive character who preys upon the vulnerabilities of a young, impressionable, and vulnerable Dreamer. We have recounted the despondencies and overwhelming horrors that render Dreamer paralyzed by misfortune. And then, in the blink of an eye, we’re met with his manifestation of true self-awakening as we see current-day Dreamer – a man fully realized and foreshadowing a journey to awareness and subconscious.
Through the abstraction of color, symbols, powerful rock music, and select narration, we are informed of what it means to be a Dreamer.
At Southern Time, we believe in the power of music and storytelling to spark hope, healing, and social change.
Our debut rock musical series, Dreamer, is more than a show — it’s a call to awaken. A bold, cinematic journey rooted in truth, trauma, and the pursuit of transformation.
Based on the life of Timothy Bartsch, a young man who contracted HIV from his university professor, Dreamer follows one soul’s path through injustice, stigma, and self-discovery — told through a powerful blend of rock music, visual storytelling, and avant-garde expression.
We’re shining a spotlight on the global silence and apathy around HIV/AIDS, and the systems that have allowed this crisis to continue — unchecked and unresolved.
But Dreamer isn’t just about illness.
It’s about resilience.
It’s about reclaiming your voice.
It’s about the courage to dream despite all odds.
Through this series, we explore urgent and often overlooked issues:
Too often, male survivors of sexual abuse are unheard, disbelieved, or ignored — trapped in the shadows of shame and silence. Dreamer confronts that silence head-on.
We stand with organizations working to end stigma, support survivors of all traumatic experiences, and build systems of healing, accountability, and care.
As the Southern Time Band, we’re not just playing songs.
We’re telling a story that needs to be heard.
